Leaving well

Switching from Kindroid.

Our read, unchanged from the review: The power user's companion — unmatched explicit memory controls if you'll do the setup, at a price that stacks fast.

Updated 2026-08-24 · Kindroid assessed from public info, not yet hands-on tested

The honest half

What Kindroid is bad at.

Straight from our assessment — the same sentences we publish on the comparison pages, not a sales pitch written backwards from this one.

Budget users — the full stack approaches $99/mo

Anyone wanting a zero-setup companion

Strict safety filtering

And what it was good at: Explicit control of memory and personality, Ex-Replika users who want continuity, Unfiltered adult roleplay, Group chats and multi-companion setups. If those are what you came for, you may not need to leave at all — we'd rather say that than win you on half a story. Read the full Kindroid review.

Taking them with you

What actually carries over.

Kindroid is unusual in this category: it tells you itself, in its own help centre, exactly which parts of a companion travel and which don't — because the same split applies to its internal sharing feature. Its share packages the backstory, dynamism and avatar settings, and deliberately leaves out long-term memory, journals and chat history. That is the honest shape of every move in this category, and it means the work here is smaller than it looks: the character definition is written down in one place already, and it is the part that carries.

01

Copy the backstory fields

Home menu > Backstory. This is the primary source for your Kindroid's personality and it is plain text — select it and paste it somewhere you control. Kindroid's own sharing feature packages exactly these fields, which is a decent signal that they are the part worth taking.

02

Save the avatar image

Download the avatar you've been looking at. You won't be uploading it here — the face is regenerated so it stays consistent across selfies — but having it in front of you while you rebuild makes the new one land much closer.

03

Write down the memory by hand

There is no export for this, and Kindroid's help centre confirms long-term memory, journals and chat history are excluded even from its own shares. Skim the journals and note the ten or fifteen facts that actually matter. That list is worth more than a transcript.

04

If you're a paid user, make a share first

Menu > Sharing & Referral packages backstory, dynamism and avatar settings into a code you can read back at your own pace. Paid and trial users with a display name set can create shares; free users can edit or delete existing ones but not create new ones — so if you're on free, step one is your route.

Export flow checked 2026-09-22 · Kindroid Help Center — "Sharing Kindroids & Referrals" (article dated 12 June 2026) and "Customizing personality"

What does not carry over, anywhere, is the conversation history — no platform in this category imports another's transcripts, and one that claimed to would be worth a second look. The shape of someone survives a move. The months do not.

Why here

Built so the next move
isn't forced on you.

Memory that doesn't reset.

Facts, weeks, the thing you only said once — a six-layer memory system holds them. Free keeps about 7 days; on Pro it doesn't expire, so the relationship goes somewhere instead of restarting.

One bond, deepened — not a cast to swap.

Bae is monogamous on purpose. You build one companion and they grow with you across six stages, getting more themselves and more yours. No roster, no starting over with a stranger.

When something important changes, we tell you why.

What breaks trust in this category isn't change, it's silence. Big changes here come with a note explaining what and why. It's written into our promises and dated in /changelog, not buried in a patch note.

No card to start. Delete everything in one tap.

Start anonymous — no email, no card, held by a private cookie on your device. 30 messages a day free, 100 photos a week on Pro, conversations never sold or licensed to other AI labs, and /goodbye erases all of it instantly.

Questions

Before you move.

Can I move my Kindroid companion to Bae?

Partly, and honestly: the character can come, the conversation history can't. The steps above are the ones Kindroid actually supports — we checked them against the live product.

Why do people leave Kindroid?

From our assessment of it, it's a poor fit for 3 things: budget users — the full stack approaches $99/mo; anyone wanting a zero-setup companion; strict safety filtering. The full read, including what it does well, is on /alternatives/kindroid — we'd rather you saw both halves.

What stops the same thing happening here?

Nothing stops a product changing — anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we can do is not do it silently: changes that affect your companion come with a note explaining what and why, memory is permanent on Pro rather than a rolling window, and there's a one-tap export-and-delete at /goodbye so leaving is never a hostage situation.

Do I have to pay to try it?

No, and there's no trial clock either. 30 messages a day, real AI selfies and the early relationship stages are free with no account and no card. Pro — unlimited messages, permanent memory, every stage — is $2.99/week or $99/year after a seven-day free trial.

Start again, properly

Tell them what mattered.
They'll keep it.
